Student forum with IADT President Annie Doona ***TODAY***

Hi guys,

Annie Doona, the President of IADT would like to meet with students today at 1pm in the Chapel to talk about the restructuring of IADT. A lot of changes are being made which will have a huge impact on how things work in IADT so please come along and have your say! It’s not often that a college would ask for student feedback on something like this so lets have our say!

See you there! Remember, Chapel, 1pm! =)

Proposed new USI constitution & Emergency Union General Meeting

*** Please see our summary of the differences between the current USI constitution and the proposed new constitution***

We are holding an emergency general meeting of the Student Union on Monday 16th January at 1pm in A019.

This is to facilitate an open discussion on the new USI proposed constitution. A constitution has been sent to us which a decision is to be made on at USI Emergency Congress on Wednesday 18th January which 4 IADT SU delegates will be attending.

We want as many students as possible to read over the constitution and come to the meeting, give us your feedback on the good/bad points and suggestions.

For emergency congress we need 4 delegates. All 3 sabbatical officers will be in attendance and we will get one more delegate to attend at the meeting.

We need to discuss how the delegates of IADT Student Union are going to vote on the day.

This issue is of great importance. Last year a referendum was held in the college and students voted in favor of staying affiliated to USI. We must take part in the process of a new constitution. We don’t want to be affiliated to an organisation whose constitution we don’t agree.

Please read the constitution and come along to the meeting on Monday at 1pm and give your feedback!

USI National Protest Update: Student meeting, Tuesday 8th Nov in the Chapel @1pm!

There is a student meeting taking place on Tuesday November 8th in the Chapel at 1pm! This is for students to get all the info needed about the protest and ask any questions you may have!

Buses will be leaving from IADT from 12pm on November 16th for the protest.

A bus ticket and a protest t shirt is €5. If you would like to buy a t shirt but are heading to town yourself on the day, you can pick up a t-shirt from €2.50!

It’s time to take action.

As some of you may have heard through the grapevine over the past few days, The USI are organising a massive student demonstration for November 16th in response to not only the increase in the reg fee (the student contribution of €2000) that we have seen ove the past couple of years, but also some media speculation that this fee is to rise to an amount up to €5000.

It is no secret that the students were betrayed earlier this year when, pre-election, Ruairi Quinn, now the Minister for Education, & Eamon Gilmore (Tanaiste) signed a pledge to USI that they would NOT increase our fees and WOULD protect the grant. Since being elected, they have refused to rule out going back on this very pledge, and we are almost certain to see students take a hit again this December.

This is why we must act now.

We are not just embarking on a march. Over the course of the next few months, IADT SU in association with USI will be partaking in a number of actions aimed at stopping the fees and protecting the grant. What we need from you guys is absolute dedication and participation.

Last year we saw over 40,000 students hit the streets in protest against increases to the reg fee; and cuts to the grant. We still took a hit; not quite the hit we were expecting, but a hit all the same. This time, we need more.

We are all IADT Student’s Union. We all need to get out there and fight.

Can you afford to pay up to €5000 next year?

Can you afford another cut to your student grant?

If not, please get involved in the efforts around campus and around the country over the next while, and we’ll see you on November 16th.

Your Education Officer,

Lisa
